Location : The park is situated in the Seoni district of southern Madhya Pradesh and runs in continuation with Pench National Park of Maharashtra. Main Entrance Gate at Turia is 12 kms from Khawasa. Khawasa lies on Nagpur Jabalpur NH-7 just on border of Madhya Pradesh & Maharashtra. Khawasa is 80 kms from Nagpur and 190 kms from Jabalpur end.

An Overview : The Pench National Park on the border of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra has been known through the ages for its rich flora and fauna. Many writers like Captain Forsyth, A.A.D. Brander, R.A. Strendale, and Rudyard Kipling have all mentioned Pench in their books as the place with rich and beautiful flora and fauna.
Named after the river that flows nearby, Pench was declared a Wildlife Sanctuary in 1983, though it had been declared a notified area in 1972. Today, the park is the 19th Tiger Reserve in the country and takes pride in its tigers and other wildlife. The total area under the Pench Tiger Reserve comes to about 758 km, out of which a core area of 299 sq km is the National Park and 464 km the buffer area.

Topography : The landscape of the park is rolling with mainly gentle slopes criss-crossed by streams and nullahs. Most of these water courses are seasonal. Many of the hills are flat-topped and allow fine vistas of the forests around. The best known of these is 'Kalapahar' with an altitude of 650 mts. The Pench river flowing through the centre of the Reserve is dry by April but a number of water pools locally known as 'dohs' are found, which serve as waterholes for wild animals. A few perennial springs also exist. Recently a number of earthen ponds and shallow wells have been developed leading to well distributed sources of water all around the reserve.

BEST TIME TO VISIT : The climate of this region is tropical with hot summers and cold winters. Monsoon touches the region in early July and remain there for the next two months. Winters are the most comfortable months though it is very difficult to view any exclusive wildlife during this season.

The best time to visit this park is summer as many wildlife varieties come outside their natural habitat in search of water and waterholes in the park provide good views of the denizens of park.

Wildlife Attractions : The variety of wildlife in the Pench National Park is really amazing. The commonly found flora in park is dominantly the tropical dry deciduous forest. The major flora found ilike Teak, Sal, Aola, Bel, Asana, Sihina, Bhera, Babul, Tendu, Nana, Salai, Khair, Mango, Bamboo, Salaia, Hiwar, Dhawada, Behada, Moha, Bija, umbar, kalam, Tendu, Koshimb, Dhawda, and many more.

The Pench National Park is well-known for its population of reptiles and amphibians. The other fauna in park is also quite remarkable. The most commonly found species of animals include Tigers, Sloth Bear, Leopards, Gaur, Barking deer, Samber, Wild Boar, Wild Dog, Blue Bull, Hyaena, Jungle Cat, Chausingha, and many more.

166 bird species including Crested Serpent Eagle, Honey Buzzard, Changable Hawk Eagle, barbets, Peacocks, Red jungle fowl and many more. Its rich bird life makes it one of the popular birdwatching spot in Madya Pradesh.
